Heavy rains and floods have affected several areas in South Sudan’s Jonglei State, forcing citizens to relocate to higher ground, a top state official said.
Philip Aguer Panyang, Jonglei State Governor, told Radio Tamazuj that some residential areas were submerged by floods and that local residents fled to other areas.
The state official reported shortages of food items at the market due to the recent fighting in Juba. “Heavy rains have caused flooding in Bor town and different parts of Jonglei state” said Aguer.
Meanwhile, Dau Akoi Jurkuch, Twic East County Commissioner, said heavy rains and floods also affected nine villages in the county. He added that the locals fear that the floods will damage their crops
