Floods hit Meiram in South Kordofan

Heavy rains and floods hit Meiram County in South Kordofan state destroying dozen houses, educational and health institutions.

A number of citizens reported that hundreds of families are now living in open spaces after the collapse of their houses. They pointed out that the city has become an isolated island after the roads leading to it were cut by floods, resulting in stop the movement between Meiram and the surrounding areas. Citizens are using motorbikes to travel to Abu Jabra and Muglad, which has led to an increase in the price of the fee for transportation by motorbike, with one trip to those areas costing 250 pounds per person.

The citizens also express their fears of the spread of disease due to lack of drainage system in the town and accumulation of water, leading to mosquito and fly breeding. They demanded that the authorities in the town use insecticide in the area and drain the water, and also provide humanitarian assistance to the affected people.
