At least 10 payams in Mayendit County of Unity State have been reported submerged by floods since July.
Tutnyang, Rukuay and Thaker payams have, however, been spared, according to the weekend reports.
Mayendit County Commissioner Marko Juong Magok Gatluak confirmed to Radio Tamazuj over the weekend that the 10 payams were submerged.
Gatluak said the affected residents were recently settled in Tutnyang, Rukuay and Thaker.
Their situation, he added, was desperate and called for humanitarian assistance from both the national and the state governments.
“We are concerned about the situation of our people who have left their payams for others as they were lacking support. We have held meetings with several NGOs and they said they would offer support to the flood victims within the next few days.
Mayendit County Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Director Mathew Ran Riak also confirmed that 10 payams have been submerged for the last four months and their inhabitants had been settled in Rukuay, Thaker and Tutnyang.
He appealed for humanitarian assistance to the victims, disclosing that the airdrops started last week at Tutnyang, targeting mostly those who benefitted from the WFP aid from the beginning of conflict in South Sudan.
Nyamuch Gatmai said she had been displaced together with her five children for the last two weeks.
“Ten of our payams were destroyed by heavy floods,” Gatmai said.
She appealed to the national and the Unity State governments for food assistance to the flood victims.
