More than 400 families in Athooc County of Jonglei State are homeless since Saturday after days of heavy rains, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Wednesday, Abraham Mamer, the county commissioner said floods destroyed 86 homes and several other homes submerged in waters, forcing families out of their homes.
“Akwai-Deng, Mathiang, Dukagol, and Molpiny areas are all flooded after the river broke its banks and days of heavy rains. 465 families in those areas now live in the open with their livestock,” he said.
Commissioner Mamer appealed to the aid agencies to intervene, saying the flood-affected families need shelter, food, and medicines.
