A lawmaker has warned about the heavy toll severe flooding has taken on South Sudan’s Boma state, saying an estimated 10,000 houses including government institutions have been destroyed.
William Lotidiang Lelo, a member of parliament in Boma, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that they expect more suffering among local residents as a large number of citizens remain displaced due to floods, amid acute shortage of medicines.
He pointed out that he floods wiped out crops in the area, forcing the flood-stricken people to eat wild fruits and leaves to stay alive.
The legislator called on international and national NGOs to intervene quickly and assist the needy people of Boma.
