Heavy rains and floods collapsed about 1,250 houses in Katilla Locality in Sudan’s South Darfur State last week, according to a local official.

Muntasir Ishaq, Executive Director of Katilla Locality, told Radio Tamazuj that about 537 houses were destroyed completely, while 713 houses were destroyed partially.

“The floods caused by the rainfalls in Katilla locality have destroyed 537 houses completely and 713 houses partially in three neighbourhoods “said Ishaq.

Muntasir Ishaq, who is also head of the disaster management committee, said they managed to evacuate 37 families only due to meagre resources in the locality.

The local official pointed out that the state government in Nyala town couldn’t provide aid assistance to the flood-stricken people due to poor roads between Nyala town and Katilla area following torrential rains.
