Jabrat El Sheikh Locality in Sudan’s North Kordofan state has been partially cut off by heavy rainfall and flooding, the commissioner Ahmed Wadi said yesterday.
Speaking to press in Khartoum, he said that the eastern part of the locality in particular is affected by heavy rains.
“We have absolutely failed to access residents from the eastern part of the locality because it was entirely cut off from the Locality headquarters,” he said.
Ahmed point out that the affected citizens moved to higher ground to avoid infection by waterborne diseases.
Commissioner Awad revealed that a convoy will dispatched from Khartoum to assist the needy people trapped in those areas.
He said his mission to Khartoum was to lobby for support from government institutions, voluntary organizations and international aid agencies.
“My delegation is going to brief the Speaker of Parliament El Fateh Izz al-Din on the situation in the locality and the arrangements carried out by the local authorities,” he said.
Wadi said that since the roads are cut off prices of goods in the locality have increased.
