At least two women were killed and crops destroyed by heavy floods in Torit East County of Torit State, an official disclosed.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Torit East County Commissioner Toby Majak Thomas said water from surrounding mountains has been flowing into the area since 20 June, causing heavy flooding.
“It has really affected us so much because you know water comes from all mountains of Imatong, Lopit and Isoke. Two women were taken by flowing water which was so heavy. One of the women from Mura Hatiha and the other from Tirangore had gone to fetch water when they fell in hole of water and drowned,” he said.
The official said majority of the people have been forced to restart cultivation. He also advised citizens to continue farming to fight the looming hunger.
Torit East County borders Geria County from the south, Ikwoto County from the southeast and Kideopo Valley from the east.
