Flood kills 22 in Sudan’s White Nile state

A large number of people and cattle were reportedly affected by floods that hit the White Nile State of Sudan recently. The Sudan’s White Nile State Minister of Social Welfare Gen Al-Teib Mohamed Ahmed Al-Jazar confirmed that the state has been affected by flood.

A source confirmed that 22 people reportedly died in various areas in the state and 448 cattle. Also 1,186 houses collapsed and other 1,196 houses partially affected as well as 3,000 acres submerged by water.

“The flood that affected the state is serious, it cannot be controlled by the state government efforts alone” Al-Jazar underscored.

Al-Jazar who is also the official spokesman of the State government in a press conference before yesterday said that Al-Shawafa-Kawahla and Dibebat-Ganatir areas were totally affected by flood. He added that it is now difficult to access these areas.

The Sudanese official noted that the state government has exerted efforts to hire an airplane to deliver packages to the stricken areas.
