The commissioner of Mongala County said Thursday that the people who were affected by floods last month and those who ran from Juba to Gondokoro Island are still living without assistance.
Illario Pataki said in an interview with Radio Tamazuj that the displaced are surviving with either help from relatives and friends or by living off cowpea leaves (Koropo Lubia) they cultivated recently which he said isn’t sufficient.
He added that several appeals he made to both state government and humanitarian agencies have not yielded fruits.
Last month the commissioner said more than 40 houses in two separate locations of the county have been affected by floods and the people moved to a little high area but without shelter.
Pataki said that the people were displaced from an area called Mori where water destroyed around 38 houses and in another place called Juba Na Bari about 18 houses were flooded with water.
He said close to 100 people are affected in Juba Na Bari.
As of Thursday the commissioner said the security situation in Mongala is alright with people going on with their normal business.
