Flights to Wau limited due to runway renovation work

Renovations on the Wau airport runway in Western Bahr al Ghazal have resulted in limitations to the number of incoming and outgoing flights.

Renovations on the Wau airport runway in Western Bahr al Ghazal have resulted in limitations to the number of incoming and outgoing flights.

The work includes tarmacking and extending the runway to more than 3,000 meters, Radio Miraya reported, citing Daniel Nial, the airport manager.

He said the airport will remain open to normal flights on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while only helicopters will be allowed to land and take off on the remaining days.

“The minister of transport came to Wau last week and commissioned the last layer pavement and runway extension. So we will be operational during Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.”

He continued, “We will [allow] helicopters during closed days. You know, Wau Airport was built since 2012 and has now started to pave and extend the runway to 3,300 meters, meaning it will make it to be one of the biggest airports in South Sudan next to Juba.”
