A lack of electricity at Juba International Airport today has resulted in cancellation of flights, sources said.

Some sources said the generators at the airport were either broken or out of fuel, while others pointed to administrative issues related to finances.

Radio Tamazuj was informed this morning the airport controllers are operating without a control system for some domestic flights leaving to the states, while the lack of power also prevented the check-in of passengers.

Most of the flights have been canceled today while some arriving flights landed but later left without taking passengers because there is no power to confirm the check-in of the passengers. Cancellations reportedly include also UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) flights.

Many passengers were left stranded at the airport waiting for the alleged problem of broken generators to be fixed.

Airport authorities have not yet made any statement about the situation to press.

Amid a worsening economic crisis, this is the first time for the airport to close down. The development may cause financial losses to airlines.
