Fleeing Mundri villagers arrive in Yei

More than 70 people who fled violence in Mundri West County on Friday and Saturday arrived in Yei River County yesterday evening, according to a county official.

Clashes took place in Mundri West County between 'arrow boys' and government forces on Friday and Saturday, the Western Equatoria state information minister said on Sunday. He told Radio Tamazuj that the clashes followed the 'assassination' of County Executive Director John Keliopa.

Many residents have fled the town and some have gone to Yei, located in neighboring Central Equatoria State.

As quoted by Eye Radio, Yei Director of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Sebit Manyang said that about that 64 people and 8 foreigners arrived in Yei from Mundri including women and children.

“Our fear is that maybe more displaced people may come in,” he said.
