A 28-year-old man from Juong payam in Leer County, Unity State, has been sentenced to a five-year jail term after he being found guilty of defiling a minor.
The man allegedly committed the offence on 17th January within Juong payam in Leer.
Besides being found guilty for being complicit in the crime, the suspect was also fined 17 cows by the local court.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, Peter Kir, the local Chief in Leer County confirmed the defilement case and said the sentence was based on the evidence presented before the court.
“We, the court found him guilty and sent the guy who was accused of defiling the 8-year-old girl to five years in jail. The incident took place last week in the area between Juong and Leer County headquarters,” he said.
Adding, “The girl was taken to Leer Hospital for medical treatment last Tuesday due to injuries she sustained when she was sexually abused.”
It is the second time a similar case has happened in Leer County. Last month, two men were sentenced to five-years each in prison after defiling a minor.
