At least five citizens were wounded on Wednesday in an attack by South Sudan’s rebels on Hamara village south of Meganis in Manyo County, Upper Nile.
The injured include three women, according to the Shilluk tribal leader Adwok Arop Yor.
Adwok told Radio Tamazuj that hundreds of villagers have fled toward Mabruka and Sarajiya areas along the Upper Nile-South Kordofan border.
“The area came under attack at 11:00 p.m. when people were sleeping,” he said. “So the terrified citizens fled to the bush after hearing heavy shooting.”
Adwok called upon the opposition fighters to stop targeting innocent civilians, saying the inhabitants are nomads and farmers from the Kinana tribe.
