At least five people have been arrested in South Sudan’s Central Upper Nile State suspected of being behind an attack that left one dead and four injured in Doleib area.
The attack by a group of armed men believed to be from Obel village took place last week on Thursday.
According to local officials in Doleib Hill, a 29-year-old man identified as Anthony Ronyo was killed in the attacked, while Chief Wilson Akot Ajawin and three others sustained minor injuries.
They also said the attackers stole the chief’s belongings.
Central Upper Nile State information minister Peter Aban Amon told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the suspected criminals are in police custody.
“Five people were arrested including the murderer. The chief was also injured but he is well. The security committee went until Doleib Hill and apprehended the criminals; they are now in the prison in Malakal. One of them is a prison officer and he has also been arrested,” he said.
Aban said the army and the security forces in the area worked together to apprehend the criminals.
He added that investigations will be conducted to establish the motive behind the attack and if found guilty the suspects will face the law.
