At least five schools in Banglo County in South Sudan’s Amadi State are not functioning owing to security fears in the area, a top state official said.
Joseph Ngere Paciko, Governor of Amadi State, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that they decided to shutdown five schools in Banglo County due to frequent attacks by armed groups on teachers and students.
The state official accused the armed opposition groups of attacking civilians in the area, saying parents also refused to send their children to schools over security concerns.
Paciko pointed out that the national government in Juba announced a cantonment site for SPLA-IO troops in Kadiba area and that there are arrangements in place to integrate those armed groups into the SPLA.
The governor called on the local youth who joined the rebels in the area not to target citizens and loot their properties, while urging them to join the peace and reconciliation process.
