Five people killed in cattle raid in Lakes State

At least five people were killed by an armed group in Malualkech village that lies on the border between Sudan’s Warrap and Lakes States on Sunday, a local official said.

At least five people were killed by an armed group in Malualkech village that lies on the border between Sudan’s Warrap and Lakes States on Sunday, a local official said.

Dhieu Wol, Lakes State Minister of Information, told Radio Tamazuj that armed men crossed from Tonj East of Warrap State and attacked Malualakech area to raid cattle.

He further said the incident resulted in the killing of five people in the area. He added some cattle were also taken, saying local citizens are still pursuing the perpetrators. However, he didn’t give further details about the number of cattle taken by the assailants.

Peace conference

Separately, Minister Wol said a peace conference between Cueibet and Rumbek North Counties area was concluded yesterday.

He further said native administration leaders from the two sides participated in the meetings that discussed cattle raiding and killings.The conference kicked off on Saturday.
