Five dog attacks in single day in Aweil

Dogs in Aweil town bit five people in a single day last week, a state minister said. He has ordered all dogs in the state to be killed.

Addressing the journalists in the state, the state Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries announce that all dogs in the state must be killed. He justified the order saying that a total of 38 people are reported been bit by the dogs since June, with five bites on Friday.

“I issued orders to the owners of the dogs to kill their dogs and the dogs that are in the town without owners are to be killed by the police authority,” he said.

It was earlier reported that fear of rabies in neighbouring Warrap State has recently prompted a similar campaign in Kwajok town.

The state minister Albino Madhan Anei also mentioned that in October there is going to be a vaccination of the animals in the state, including cattle, sheep and goats to prevent the diseases that affect them. The minister noted that recent flooding in the state could increase the rates of disesases affecting cattle. He also said that herders will be expected to pay some money for the vaccinations because the state had to pay for them.
