Five die, 20 children injured in air raid on school in Sudan's Nuba Mountains

Five people were reportedly killed and 20 injured during an aerial bombardment on a primary school In El Abassiya locality in the Nuba Mountains, South Kordofan.

Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that an Antonov of the Sudanese Air Force (SAF) on Monday dropped three bombs on the Dar es Salaam primary school in the village of Umm Marha in the western part of El Abassiya locality. Five people were killed, including three children. 20 children were injured. They were transferred to the hospital of Abbasiya town for treatment.

The witnesses reported that the air raid also led to the destruction of the house and retreat of a sheikh of the Samaniya Sufi Order in the village, Sheikh Ahmed Shafee Khalifa Sheikh Abulgasim, as well as to the death of a number of livestock.

The SAF also bombed other areas in the locality, creating horror and panic among the population of Umm Marha and other villages in the western part of the locality.

The witnesses noted that the bombed areas in El Abassiya locality are under complete control of the government.
