Five traditional leaders in Blue Nile who were arrested by the security agents in the state have recently been released, according to a local source.

El Mak Adel-Malik Adam Hamdan of El Keili North in Kurmuk locality and Omda Bade Khalifa Kabash Gali along with other leaders were arrested after they had complained about the state governor’s move to sell land for investment purposes.

A traditional leader told Radio Tamazuj that the released leaders have been instructed to report themselves to the security office every morning and then go back home.

He further said about 15 others are still in detention in connection of the land dispute.

Detention of Bambasi omda

Meanwhile, the detention of the Blue Nile omda at Bambasi refugee camp in Ethiopia Babekir El Mahboub has entered its third week now.

The family of the detained traditional leader expressed concern about the health of their father, while calling for his immediate release.

El Rashid Babekir, the son of the detainee told Radio Tamazuj that his father was arrested along the Assosa and Bambasi roads while travelling for treatment for a toothache.
