A fisherman was stabbed to death during a fight with his colleague at a fishing site in the Duk Padiet area of Duk County, Jonglei state on Sunday, authorities said.
John Chatim Jok, the Duk County commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that the incident occurred after a disagreement erupted after a few drinks.
“The deceased Gatkhor Reath from a neighboring community was killed by his friend from Duk, Gatkhor Kay. The two are friends who practice fishing in the company of three other friends but on that day they were under the influence of alcohol. So, they fought and one stabbed the other to death,” he said.
The local official said the murder suspect escaped after the incident. He called on the deceased’s family to be calm saying all relevant authorities will be engaged so that an arrest is made.
For his part, Major Majak Daniel Tuor, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said that a manhunt was ongoing.
