A 70-year-old fisherman was on Wednesday found floating dead in floodwaters in Melut County of Upper Nile state, local officials and the police said.

Arop Kuol, a local community leader, told Radio Tamazuj: “The deceased Angeu Anei Riak left yesterday (Tuesday) at 9 am to go and check on his fishnets in a canal but he did not. This morning he was found dead floating on the floodwaters.”

Deng Awer Anei, the Melut Payam administrator, said a team of security forces and medical doctors investigating the incident found that the deceased died while at a canal on Tuesday and that there was no foul play involved.

For his part, Areng Yuot, a police sergeant major who was at the scene, said the 70-year-old man passed on because he was not able to overcome the pressure exerted by the floodwaters.
