First Lady’s security guard killed in Wau

A soldier belonging to South Sudan’s Presidential Guard unity who also works as a car driver and security guard for President Kiir’s wife Mary Ayen was killed in Wau town on Wednesday evening, a local official said.

The victim who hails from Wau area was identified as Harbi Ramadan.

In a press statement on Thursday, Mel Aleu Goc, mayor of Wau town, said Harbi visited Wau recently together with the First Lady Mary Ayen.The municipal official said the security guard was shot dead by unknown assailants on Wednesday.

“The incident took place in the evening in Wau. According to the information have gathered so far, the security found that Ramadan was invited by one of his colleagues, but while returning back home, he was shot dead by unknown people,” said Goc.

The mayor pointed out that investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators.

 Wau town has witnessed rampant insecurity resulting in multiple people killed or wounded.
