Mary Ayen, wife of South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit has distributed school bags to children in Akon County in Gogrial State.
The first lady called on parents to send their children to school as the new academic year begins.
“I want to urge the mothers to send their children to school because education is important. During the liberation struggle, many children could get opportunities for education”, Ayen said in a statement on Tuesday.
She called on the chidden who received school bags to focus on their studies in Akon where over 2,000 children received school materials.
Ayen called those who are taking up arms against the Kiir administration to come back for the sake of peace and stability in the country. “South Sudan is our country all of us. Let’s come together so that children can go back to South Sudan,” she said.
Ayen's statement comes after the warring parties failed to a sign a peace agreement last month in Addis Ababa.
