First ever Juba Film Festival kicks off

The four-day Juba Film Festival began Monday in the capital of South Sudan with the screening of eight films at Nyakuron Cultural Center and the Hai Neem Youth Sport Center.

It is the first time a film festival has taken place in Juba showcasing movies produced and directed by South Sudanese.

31 total movies, including dramas, comedies, and documentaries produced and directed by South Sudanese nationals will be shown during the festival.

Speaking during the launching events, Simon Bongo, a member of the organizing committee, said the aim of the festival is to celebrate South Sudan cultures through arts and movies.

Films will also be screened at the French Cultural Institute in University of Juba and at Juba Tukul restaurant.

The winning films will get cash awards for best film, best actor, best producer, and best director.
