The Aweil Health Sciences Training Institute is officially up and running with 120 students divided into three programs – clinical officers, midwifery and nurses.

Achier Adup, the principal of the Institute, said each of the courses will run for three years and that the current term started June 30.

He said they had more applicants than spots available in the program.

“There are a lot of interested students who want to join the Institute, but there is no way for them to come according to our policy.”

Some students are already complaining about the slow pace of the classes and Adup acknowledged some initial hurdles.

“As time goes, these challenges will be addressed,” he said. “Many students complain that teaching is slowly, however teachers will not hurry in teaching health subjects.”
