Karlo Maluil Makuek, the newly appointed Akop County Commissioner in the controversial ‘Tonj State’, one of 28 successor states to the 10 constitutional states, has welcomed his appointment.

Karlo Maluil Makuek, the newly appointed Akop County Commissioner in the controversial ‘Tonj State’, one of 28 successor states to the 10 constitutional states, has welcomed his appointment.

Akop was one of the payams in Tonj North County which had nine payams in total, all of which have now been upgraded to the level of the counties. Some services, however, such as county health departments, are not yet functioning along the new county lines.

Commissioner Maluil, who is currently in Juba, is the first local official from Akop community to be appointed into the position of area commissioner since the creation of the new state through presidential order in October 2015.

“All things come to those who wait,” said Maluil in reaction to his appointment. “I congratulate Hon. Governor of Tonj State Maj. Gen. Akec Tong Aleu and the entire leadership of Tonj government for trust they bestowed on me and with rest of my colleagues in newly appointed commissioners… I personally accepted the appointment to be the first commissioner of Akop County.”
