Fire guts sugar cane farms in Sudan’s Sennar State

An extensive fire gutted about 80 acres of sugar cane farms in Sudan’s Sennar State on Friday early morning.

An extensive fire gutted about 80 acres of sugar cane farms in Sudan’s Sennar State on Friday early morning.

The incident lasted for four hours, while the fire brigade personnel rushed to the farms to contain the fire.

A source at the scene also told Radio Tamazuj that the police went to the scene so as to ascertain the cause of the incident.  

There is not yet from authorities any suggestion of arson. In 2011, a group of youths calling themselves Revolutionary Front of Central Region Youths burned sugar cane farms resulting in loss of about 30 acres.
