Properties of unknown value were destroyed after a fire burnt ten houses to ashes in Malualkon in Aweil East. No injuries were reported in the late afternoon incident.
A local radio station reports that locals fought the fire for more than half an hour using water and soil but could not contain the flames. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
This comes after another fire incident last week in which children were burnt to death and one was seriously injured at Mabil-Apath area in Aweil East.
In another fire incident, a 9 year old boy is reported to have died in Tonj North. One of the relatives says this happened when a fire caught in a tukul during the night.
Peter Kiir Yak, uncle to the deceased, said three other children managed to get out of the room when it was burning.
“Children were sleeping in the room at night and the fire was in the room when weather has changed to cool and the father of children was sleeping in the cattle camp so the incident happened at 1 am and three children were able to run out of the fire while one child remained inside the room and the people were not able stop the fire,” said Peter.
He called on communities to be careful when leaving children in the house.
