A fire broke out at Kario camp for South Sudanese refugees in Sudan’s Eastern Darfur on Sunday, burning a number of houses, several eyewitnesses said.
The eyewitnesses told Radio Tamazuj that an extensive fire caused by an electrical fault broke out at Kario refugee camp, located about 30 kilometers away from Ad Daein town, burning about 16 houses.
They blamed the spread of fire on unplanned settlements and lack of fire extinguishers in the area.
For his part, Ibrahim Wiel, a Dinka tribal leader at the Kario camp, advised the South Sudanese refugees to be careful in dealing with fire. The chief called upon humanitarian organizations to organize trainings for them on mitigation of risks.
