Fire destroys houses of citizens inside Wau PoC

About five makeshift houses in the United Nations Protection of Civilians’ site (PoC) in South Sudan’s Wau State were burnt down by fire over the weekend. Property of unknown value was destroyed but no human casualties were reported.

About five makeshift houses in the United Nations Protection of Civilians’ site (PoC) in South Sudan’s Wau State were burnt down by fire over the weekend. Property of unknown value was destroyed but no human casualties were reported.

Juma Suleiman, the camp chairman, told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that fire broke out in the camp on Saturday evening and more than five houses were burned. He said the displaced people in the camp helped to put out the fire.

Suleiman advised the internally displaced persons inside the camp to be careful with fire during the coming season and to always keep some water in the house for emergency.

The United Nations said a total of number of civilians seeking safety in the UN Protection of Civilians’ site (PoC) is 31,856 in the area adjacent to UNMISS in Wau as of 16 November.
