A big fire gutted more than 20 houses in Aweil town in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State on Tuesday morning, according to a local official.
Aweil Deputy Mayor Tong Deng said about 20 thatched roof houses have been destroyed by fire. He further said local residents and fire brigade team couldn’t contain the fire in order to rescue the properties. No casualties were reported according to the source.
“In 2012 we had a vehicle for Fire Brigade forces, but it is not functioning now. So we call upon the national government to help us by giving us a vehicle because the state government cannot afford to bring a new vehicle,” he said.
The deputy mayor urged the local residents to take care of their children as fire season starts in the state.
