A fire broke out today in a number of buildings in the capital of Juba near Al Sabah Children’s Hospital and opposite the Norwegian Embassy on Malakia Road.
Sounds of explosions like ammunition were heard from inside the residential buildings. A correspondent witnessed several buildings consumed by the blaze, but was prevented from speaking to officials at the scene on the cause of the fire. The destroyed structures were mainly small houses with zinc roofs.
Also in Juba last night sporadic shooting broke out in the ministries area. A source who preferred to withhold his name told Radio Tamazuj that one member of the organized forces died during the exchange of fire.
The incident reportedly involved a police patrol attempting to arrest a serviceman who was suspected of murdering his wife and had refused to turn himself over to the police.
