A financial crisis has hit South Sudan’s Aweil State hospital, leaving more than 70 medical workers unable to work.
The hospital director, Reec Mathok Diing told Radio Tamazuj Friday that the hospital lacks finances to pay its volunteers who have been working for long without appointment from government.
He did not disclose exact numbers of staff on government’s payroll.
He said hospital workers got small allowances that could not meet their daily demands and this prevented them from performing duties.
Reec called upon the government and partners to allocate funds for maintaining the increasing numbers of medical staff at the hospital.
According to health authorities, the hospital currently has over 70 medical workers who do not receive government salary.
