Fighting broke out again this morning in Pariang County of South Sudan’s Unity State between government troops and SPLA-In Opposition forces allied with former Vice President Riek Machar.
“The rebel forces attacked our position in Khatel-Nar, Tom-South and Lalop, but they were repulsed by the SPLA forces,” Pariang County Commissioner told Radio Tamazuj this afternoon.
Monylang Manyiel said the fighting was still continuing in those areas. He added the rebel attack took place two hours ago.
“We are not sure about any details up to now. There are no details up to now because the fighting is still ongoing,” he said.
However, the county official claimed that the security situation is stable. He asserted his government’s commitment to peace and stability in South Sudan.
The Pariang commissioner called for international NGOs and relevant authorities to provide food to local citizens in the area.
He added the local citizens could not cultivate due to floods that hit the area last year. He pointed out that there emerging hunger risk in the county this year.
