Fighting in Unity, Upper Nile triggers mass displacements

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said insecurity and lack of access to vital supplies have continued to force South Sudanese to flee in search of safety, assistance and protection over the past month.

In August there was increased displacement from Unity and Upper Nile states due to fighting in and around Koch, Leer, and Mayendit counties in Unity and Wau Shilluk in Upper Nile, according to OCHA.

The report indicated that nearly 78,000 displaced people are now sheltering in Nyal, Panyijiar County, southern Unity, including about 18,000 who arrived in the past two weeks.
