Fighting in Pochalla forces residents to flee town

Residents of Pochalla were forced to flee their homes on Monday following fighting which erupted in the county, sources said.

The fighting that occurred between communities of Pochalla North and Pochalla South counties started at around 4 PM. The shooting was reported along Pochalla airstrip.

As of yesterday, there were no reports of casualties, but gunfire resumed this morning around 6:50 AM with both side mobilizing themselves. SPLA soldiers are paroling areas.

By mid-morning today Radio Tamazuj was able to confirm that three people were killed and three were injured.

Governor Baba Medan of Boma State reportedly urged the parties in Pochalla to remain calm before the fight broke out yesterday.

An earlier bout of fighting in Pochalla erupted over food distribution in June 2015 leaving at least two people dead.
