Abdullah Tamim Fartak, sultan of the Feroge tribe in Raja County in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal State has called on the government to remove an SPLA garrison in Khor Shamam in order to allow the Feroge tribe to return to their area of origin.

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, Fartak said they deserted the area of Khor Shamam during the Sudanese civil war in 1987 owing to violence. The area located about 8 kilometers east of Raja town was later occuped by SPLA troops, which made it difficult for them to return.

The traditional leader further said they already requested the government several times to allow them to return to the area, saying their request reached the state government, but no positive response so far. The tribal leader said that they are still stranded in Raja town without access to their historical land.
