The Federal Democratic Party (FDP) that is a signatory to the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan under the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) has been hit by ownership wrangles.

Two groups led by Gen Gathoth Gatkuoth Hothnyang and Gabriel Changson Chang both claim the ownership.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters at the Rock City suburb of Juba over the weekend, Changkuoth Bichiock Reth, the Secretary General of the faction led by Changson, lashed out at ownership and leadership claim by Hothnyang, saying the latter was dismissed after he defected in 2016.

It has come to the attention of the Federal Democratic Party leadership that General Gathoth Gatkuoth Hothnyang, who defected and was dismissed in 2016 together with a delegation after joining the government, was undertaking fraudulent operations on social media, Reth said.

He said Hothnyang’s claim to be the chairman of the FDP faction, cannot be found on the party register.

Bichiok recalled that the FDP was formed in 2015 in Nairobi where Hothnyang and many others were members and in 2017 the IGAD High-level Revitalized Forum contacted the FDP led by Changson to be part of the negotiation of current peace agreement together, with other parties, which later formed SSOA.

Efforts by Radio Tamazuj to reach Gatkuoth for comments were unsuccessful as calls were went unanswered.
