Fears of fresh clashes in Dilling Locality, South Kordofan

Local authorities in Dilling and Kadugli Localities in Sudan’s South Kordofan State warned members of the Gulfan clan of Nuba tribe and the Misseriya Arab tribe in southwest of Diling town against instigating further tribal clashes in the area.

Deadly clashes involving the Nuba and the Misseriya Arab tribes resulting in the killing of reportedly dozens in Habila Locality on Friday. The incident was sparked by a dispute over grazing lands.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, several residents in the locality expressed grave concern about the possibility of imminent clashes, which prompted the police and the other organized force to create a buffer zone between the two tribes to de-escalate the situation.

Heavily armed Misseriya tribesmen driving motorcycles were seen heading toward Katma village, which is about 10 kilometres from the town of Dilling, according local sources.

The same source further revealed that the local authorities warned the assailants against any attack, saying the government told them clearly that they will be held responsible for the attack on Gulfan clan at Katma village.

“The two governments in Dilling and Kadugli localities were engaging the tribal leaders from both sides in meetings so as to defuse the tension,” he explained.
