At least seven people were killed when a stray lioness invaded their villages in Yirol County of Lakes State last week.

The incident occurred in the areas of Riangpeen, Duthieng and Biling.

Hakim Makur, Executive Director of the now defunct Yirol East County, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the lioness attacked homes last week, while villagers were asleep.

"This wild lioness has caused panic and massive displacement. According to the information we gathered from local communities, whenever they follow the lioness, they also see three cubs," he explained.

The local official said they reported the matter to wildlife authorities to find a solution. "We have consulted with wildlife authorities in Yirol to form a committee that will follow the lioness," Hakim said.
