Fashoda church council urge implementation of peace deal

The chairman of the local churches committee in Fashoda county of South Sudan's Upper Nile state urged the warring parites to expedite implementation of the peace deal.

Rev. Johnson Amum, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that citizens desperately need real peace in order to sew the social fabric of South Sudan back together.

“Tribalism, politics will not help people," Amum said. "From here I am calling upon people of South Sudan that fighting will not benefit us. We have lost so many lives due to fighting. Peace us better than war. We have to come together."

The church leader said hundreds of people in Kodok town conducted peaceful demonstrations on Tuesday to mark the two year anniversary of the war and to celebrate Christmas.

Amum urged the warring parties to stop the war and follow amnesty policy of reconciliation among themselves.

Separately, Amum said the humanitarian situation in Fashoda is stable and prices have improved. He said a sack of maize previously sold for 1500 SSP now sells for 450 SSP.
