The agriculture department in Dalami Locality of the Nuba Mountains, South Kordofan State, has warned of a lack of pesticides in the area.
Shamsun Abdurrahman Al-Dud, the head of agricultural schemes, told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the lack of pesticides is hampering efforts to boost food production in the area.
He also cited lack of transport for agricultural products and conflicts with pastoralists as some challenges facing farmers in Dalami Locality.
"These are the challenges facing us, but we will be able to solve them so that farmers can produce food to bridge the famine gap in the Nuba Mountains region," Al-Dud said.
He urged area authorities to hold meetings to determine pathways for herders to avoid disputes and allow the farmers to work safely.
Al-Dud also appealed to authorities to provide pesticides and security to farmers.
