A local farmer was shot dead by unknown gunmen along the Yei-Lasu road in South Sudan’s Yei River State, an eyewitness said on Friday.

The eyewitness told Radio Tamazuj that the farmer who was identified as Lokudu from the Kagelu area was killed in Lutaya area, located two miles away from Yei town.

 He pointed out that the famer was shot dead while taking some agricultural products to the market for sale in the west of Yei town.

The same eyewitness noted that the body was later brought to Yei Civil Hospital for post-mortem. “As I speak now, we are at the hospital to look at the body of the person who was killed along the Yei-Lasu road, so that’s what I can confirm to you,” he said.

Earlier this week, the governor of Yei River State David Lokonga Moses announced that the security situation was relatively calm in the area following the deployment of more security forces.
