A farmer identified only as Okway was killed on Wednesday near his farm in Pochalla County of Boma State, a lawmaker said.
Charles Welo, a lawmaker representing Pochalla area in the national legislative assembly, told Radio Tamazuj Saturday that the farmer was killed by gunmen near his farm in the area of Buong on Wednesday evening.
He said the body was found dumped on the side of road by a group of gunmen. “He [Okway] was preparing his farm for cultivation ahead of rains,” the legislator explained.
Welo accused bandits from the Murle community of involvement in the incident, saying no suspect was arrested due to lack of police personnel in the area.
The lawmaker pointed out that local farmers are living in fear of attacks by gunmen. He called on the government to step up efforts to protect the farmers in the greater Pochalla County.
