South Sudan’s Fangak State parliament, launched in 2015, officially opened on Wednesday for the first time.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the state information minister, Elijah Pajok Buom said the new assembly would prioritize service delivery.
He blamed delays in parliament’s opening to the country’s civil war.
“Today [Wednesday] governor John Kong opened Fangak legislative assembly. There were 18 lawmakers out of 21 during the opening session. In his speech, the state governor urged the assembly and the cabinet to prioritize delivery of services such as health, education and infrastructure since the locals in the state have not been receiving services after creation of the state in 2015,” Buom said.
The state lawmakers were urged to enhance working relations with the executive for effective service delivery, according to the minister.
Located in the country’s Greater Upper Nile region, Fangak is one of the 32 states created through a presidential order in October 2015.
