The family of a man recently executed in Wau says that he was not given a fair trial and was executed in secret and without notification of the family to bury him. The man had been convicted of killing Lakes Chief Aparer Chut, elder brother of the state governor.

In a press statement, family members of Dok Maker Mabor protested “unfair trial and inhumane execution on the 17th of June, 2015 at Wau prison without the knowledge of his close family members.”

The family admits that Dok murdered Chief Aparer but says the court should have considered that it was an act of revenge against the killing of his own father, Chief Maker Mabor Riak.

They accuse the judiciary and the government of sentencing their son in absentia, rejecting his appeal, lack of due process, secret execution, and denial of the family rights to bury the dead.

The family also questioned how the death sentence was confirmed by Chef Justice Chan Reec Madut so quickly, if at all, when dozens other convicts are still waiting confirmation of their death sentences.
