Family members of a woman killed by a gunman in Aweil last week have condemned recent police statements claiming that their deceased relative was involved in a recent adultery case linked to the shooter. The family’s representative has denied statements made by the state police commissioner to media houses.
Some police officials reportedly had claimed that the shooter killed an old woman in Aweil after accusing her of playing a role in facilitating adultery between his wife and another man. One local media outlet reported, for example, that “the old woman was said to be the messenger to his wife.”
This charge is denied by the old woman’s family. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, the family representative Garang Diing Wol instead highlighted that the shooter had had administrative problems with the police and he said that they would seek compensation from the Ministry of Interior .
Local sources also confirmed to Radio Tamazj that the killer was a policeman who was having administrative problem with state police headquarters after he was transferred from his position at a lucrative trading centre.
