Family of political detainee in Blue Nile calls for release

The family of a leading political figure of the communist party in Blue Nile, Suleiman Ali, announced that they hold the Sudanese Security and Intelligence Service responsible for the reported deteriorating health of the their father.

In November the party’s secretary-general was picked up from his law firm and detained along with another two members working for a printing press in the town.

Suleiman’s family members say they are concerned about their father’s health condition in detention.

Abu Baker Suleiman, the detainee’s son said the director of security in the state Ala Eddin Fuad Ghandur, head of political affairs at the security office Adam Idris and director of police Shihab Omer Bakri as well as the prosecutor in the state will be held responsible for anything that happens to his father.

Abu Baker further said Suleiman Ali had been taking medications on a daily basis before being detained. He added that the management of the Roseires Prison refused to receive the detainee at the request by the prosecutor on Thursday.

He pointed out that local authorities instead decided to keep his father in detention in Damazin. He called for the immediate release of the father and then to face charges in court.
